How much frozen fun can you handle?
Calling All Frosty Treat Fanatics!! How much brain freeze and frozen treats can you handle? Festival goers devour a series of ice cream eating challenges—How fast can you eat a pint? A half-gallon? Special categories for “under 13” eaters, “Look Ma, No-Hands!” popsicle eating, and more! Winners will receive an Austin Ice Cream Festival Commemorative Spoon (and a good ole fashioned hose down!). Contests will take place in the Main Pavilion.
(ALL DAY): Festival goers put their taste buds to the test. As you taste frozen treat samples around the fest, you’ll vote on the samples that you tasted – crowning the 2018 Austin Ice Cream Festival’s Fan Favorite in the Best of ATX Frozen Treats contest!
(2:45pm): Let’s raise our spoons to the Best Frozen Treats of Austin! The Austin Ice Cream Festival’s “Best of ATX Frozen Treats” contest is a celebration of Austin’s best ice cream and frozen treat makers. Featured Frozen Treat Vendors will submit a flavor to be judged by a panel of celebrity judges at the Austin Ice Cream Festival. The judges include Chet Gardner (Host of The Daytripper on PBS), Dawn Weston (Associate Editor of Edible Austin), Simon Madera (Owner of Taco Flats and La Holly), Suzanna Choffel (local musician and former contestant on The Voice), W. A. Brenner (food writer for The Austin Chronicle), Rachel Holtin (@Austinfoodstagram) and two surprise judges from Austin Food Adventures. Shayda Torabi will emcee the event. Winner announced onsite and via social media on June 23rd.
Half-Gallon (8:30pm) – Limited to first 15 on-site registrants; 18 and older
(6:30pm): Let your voice be heard! You’ll sample the creative frozen cocktails created by our local bartenders from Haymaker, Black Sheep and Franks and vote on your favorite treat to be crowned the “Fan Favorite Frozen Cocktail of ATX” Meet the mixologists below!
My name is Chef Thomas Bartley- raised and trained in the Austin area. I've been cooking professionally for almost 10 years. With 6 of those being with H-E-B. I'm an H-E-B Chef who specializes in quick, great tasting meal solutions. Some might consider me a Culinary Consultant of sorts. I've been married 1 year and my wife and I have 3 dogs. We're natives to Hutto and Round Rock. When I'm not in the kitchen I can be found building things for my house or spending time with my wife and our puppers.
